NHLP Cup Threat Ratings For 2010/11(Updated For 5 Games, 6% (Percent) of the Season)

The NHLP has always came out with the Cup Threat Rating (CTR).  The CTR is also known as the Power Rankings in the NHLP.  It is a time perfected, skill based, best prediction of what teams are the best and what teams have the best chance of winning it all.  It has been very accurate over the years, however 2009/10 wasn't exactly bang on.  It is true that the CTR holds strongest when upsets do not occur in the playoffs and Philadelphia being a low seed and making the finals did effect the CTR last year.  Cleveland (Tyson) was the CTR #13 ranked team.  However in 2008/09, the CTR predicted Las Vegas and Dallas as being the two best NHLP teams and of course Dallas beat Las Vegas in the NHLP finals.  The CTR Nailed Florida in 2007/08 as NHLP winners and many other winners over the years.  The CTR really does work.  It isn't a perfect science, but it is not a guess either.  If you are near the top, you have a good team and a better shot at winning, near the bottom, a bad team with little hope as is.  The nice thing is you have the power to change your teams position at any time.  This will be on-going and ever changing all year.  How it works - Teams will move up and down based on their Transactions, NHLP Standings (Points back or points to give), Players Points,  Depth Charts, PP Time on the ice and mainly the NHL standings.  You may not like the teams seeded 1st in each Conference to win it all, but the CTR does not go by gut feelings, only 100% statistics.  It holds truest when there are no upsets (but when is that?).  This is the NHLP Power Rankings.

How does this guy do it?  Leading the CTR all last season, the Ice have started strong again.  Who can argue when you have the fiesty Ribeiro and JP Dumont both getting over a point a game and on the top two seeds in the West!  Fleischmann and Lecavalier are top seeded teams as well in the East.  Until these teams fade, this team will stay high in the CTR rankings.
2 1365 Chad

(North)
Is there a hotter team right now?  This team is dominating.  Led by Kessel who is chewing up goaltenders.  GM Chad is finally enjoying watching his Leafs play, getting 9 of a possible 10 points to start the season.  Daniel Sedin, Kaberle, Booth and Samuelsson are doing their part.  Bergeron has yet to get a point, making this team even more scary, as that guy can bring fans out of their seats and likely will do so any day now.  We like this team as long as Toronto sticks around.  Why can't they?  Every year there is a Colorado or Phoenix and you can't argue until someone proves that they can actually beat these guys.

Sullivan and Legwand are making this team strong as Nashville is a top seed and looking great.  Phaneuf is doing his part while Spezza is scoring but Ottawa is no where to be found in the NHL standings.  Pominville has not only yet to register a point, he still thinks he is playing in Rochester.  Jr is liking Pominville's Rochester numbers, quite a bit, right about now.
4 1200 Charlie

(East)
Sitting in 4th spot in the East, this is the Divisions best all around team.  Ovechkin is pure gold, picked first, thanks to a pre-draft deal that GM Charlie has to be smoking happy with.  One has to wonder just what GM Shawn could have gotten had he put it out to the league he'd move the first overall pick?  Maybe poor management by many other GM's and a great, great move by Charlie.  Outside Ovechkin, this team may have trouble getting points, and still nothing from the often injured Holmstrom.  Right now though, we like where this has started.
5 1153 Shawn

(South)
Another team  from the South!  One point out with two players yet to get a point this seasonm how is it even possible in this Division?  Oh ya, he has BRAD RICHARDS on his team!  First place Dallas Stars and 10 points from Richards in just 5 games.  Who needs anything from Burrows and Turris with production from your second round pick like that.  Now if only Iginla would finally be Iginla again.
6 1149 Michael & Ray

(West)
These kids are good!  Well, maybe not Bourgue and Frolik who have zero points yet.  OK, maybe not Doan who isn't rated and clearly now is a goon more than a point getter.  But you have to like Sharp and Morrow!!!  This team can only go the right way, UP!  We love it's potential but it isn't something they want to sit on.  Early action could make something here worth writing about.
7 1130 Michael & Ray

(North)
Seen Stamkos?  Not many goalies are seeing his shot right now.  He is just amazing.  With Tampa a high seed, the second-year GM's are loving his nightly hi-light reel.  They are the first GM's to have both teams mention at #6 and #7 overall.  Vanek and Elias are not rated, so there is much room to improve when their teams get going as they will.  Love Stamkos, love the guy!
8 1081  Joel

(West)
We see all the potential for this team this year, to improve that is.  How can't they improve when they are scoring at will and  with their Divisional position improving daily, on the weak links behind them.  This team has only 3 players here who are even getting rated.  No where to go but up.  St Louis and Malone are striking hot for the Lightning and Stewart, you have to enjoy watching this kid Stewart.  Sit back and also watch the Canucks climb the CTR folks!
9 1075 Ryan

(East)
With Semin and Downie leading the charge GM Ryan's Bruins are looking very good early.  Washington has already take over a top two seed in the East, keeping Semin's value high.
10 1004 Shawn

(East)
First place in the East and the third ranked in the CTR top 10 from the East is GM Shawn in Halifax.  Having no trouble scoring, GM Shawn's Destroyers are off to a great start.  All Western Division players, except Horton, who are battling for early seeding position (Detroit, St Louis and Vancouver).  This team is a solid drafted team with Henrik Sedin, Horton, Franzen, Lidstrom and Oshie.  Bolland from Chicago is the top seeded playoff team this early.  Shawn has the first two Waivers of the season and clearly he has a ton of options to choose from.  Will be very exciting to see what he does to improve here in Halifax.
11   980   Marcel

(South)
A decent ranking with room to improve from Smyth and Kopitar if the Kings can climb to a higher seed.  Weber is getting full value with Nashville at the top of the standings.  All 7 are rated at this time and not many teams can make that claim right now.
12 971 Andrew

(North)
GM Andrew finds himself in the top scoring Division, the North, so the heat is on.  Invested heavily in Philadelphia, the Flyers are barely rated.  Needs them to improve to move up.  Hossa is just wicked right now and Chicago can still improve their own seeding to help out here.  Kovalev has been a major bucket of shit, so watch and see what Andrew tries to do early here.
13 951 Scott

(West)
You heard it here first everyone.....Gagne will not go his next 5 games, like his first 5, without getting a point.  No bets though, just saying.  Already know how betting with your heart can be expensive.  Thank goodness for Stastny however!  Once Benn gets his army of brain cells firing again, we think this team can still do some climbing, as Toews hasn't been scoring either, so the potential is there in the pathetic West Division.
14 905 Scott

(East)
Alfredsson and Ennis are pulling the number down as neither is rated at this time.  Led by Kane and Eriksson, thanks to a hot start by Dallas.  Will continue to improve position over the teams behind in the East who can't keep up in the scoring department.
15  904 Joel

(North)
Everyone is rated and damned near everyone is scoring for GM Joel.  This team is hot, but is majorly invested in San Jose with Thornton, Clowe and Pavelski.  Those Sharks are only rated because of games at hand, so although they should be fine, they are going to have to get some points in those games.  This team needs to keep it's pace as this is by far the top scoring Division in the NHLP, with no signs of slowing.  Would help if Ponikarovsky would stop grazing in the field somewhere and start getting some points himself.  Expect Poni rides soon in Buffalo.
16 870 Ryan

(West)
You know the best thing about being in the West?  You are in Calgary's Division!!!  Great seeding from Laich, Hornqvist and Galiardi has this team sailing, even though Parise, Weiss and Hall only have a total of 4 points between them.  That has to change in a big way and we are certain the scoring will improve here soon.
17 770  Andrew

(West - Pacific)
Plekanec and Malkin are providing the points and Bozak has good value as the Leafs keep winning.  Erat has back problems which will get this team looking for a Waiver and a deal if he isn't back, pardon the pun, soon.
18 630 Tyson

(South)
Where would this team be without Neal?  The guy is on fire, with 7 points in 5 games and his Dallas Stars are a CTR top seed.  Now for the bad news.  Gaborik's shoulder, like his hip, had to be put back into location and half of this team isn't ranked, with Phoenix and New Jersey taking the first few weeks off.
19 651 Charlie

(South)
Just a horrible rating from the South's first place Surf.  Half the team is on the beach while only Bertuzzi (when did he become a scorer again), Zetterberg and Brouwer are being ranked.  Nothing from Buffalo or New Jersey and that will need to change, first place or not, before this Surf rides the CTR to the top.
20 540 Tyson

(East)
Cup hangover?  The teams not scoring and the top guys who are, Mikko Koivu and Dubinsky are on junk teams.  Backstom and Versteeg, yes Versteeg, are carrying this ranking.  Simmons, the deadbeat pick up for the injured drafted Prospal seems to be a bad choice at this point, with Simmons yet to light the lamp or even pass it to someone, who even passed it to someone else, who lit it for him.  With zero points, Prospal's potential injury pick of 5 points might be looking damn fine about now.  Expect changes to occur here, as soon as possible.
21 518 Matt

(North)
The scoring has been great considering GM Matt is carrying Savard.  That is a good thing, as otherwise, this team would be buried in the high scoring North Division.  What isn't as pretty is the no rating from Perry on this team, and Tanguay, Heatley and Boyle are only rated due to our big hearts, which eventually shrinks with the standings.
22 475 Marcel

(North)
How do you say YIKES in French?  YIKES!!!  No one is scoring and if it wasn't for the NY Islanders quick start this team would be as bad as Calgary's rating last year (OK, we know Cincinnati had the worse rating last season, but that wouldn't be poking fun of Jr's misery and that is no fun in itself).  This team is going to continue to fall here until the Devils (Kovalchuk and Zajac) get ranked or until GM Marcel makes it happen.
23 425 Jr

(West)
Look on the bright side.  Well, we don't know what the bright side is, we are just saying, look on the bright side.  Fire the assistant yet?
24 315 Chad

(East)
This is just an ugly team at the moment.  No one is scoring and teams are not great seeded teams.  Led by Sid the Kid, so it isn't all that bad, as long as Pittsburgh stays in the playoffs, this team will always be able to improve via trade.  Will need lesser guys to get moving as Gonchar, Keith, Stempniak and Lombardi have 5 points between them.  Sid may be able to lift that heavy medicine ball, but carrying it, on his back all season, might be asking too much!

The NHLP has always came out with the Cup Threat Rating (CTR) a couple times a year.  The CTR is also known as the Power Rankings in the NHLP.  It is a time perfected, skill based, best prediction of what teams are the best and what teams have the best chance of winning it all.  It is very accurate.  Like last year it predicted Las Vegas and Dallas as being the two best NHLP teams and of course Dallas beat Las Vegas in the NHLP finals.  Nailing Florida the year before as NHLP winners and many winners over the years.  The CTR really does work.  It isn't a perfect science, but it is not a guess either.  If you are near the top, you have a good team and a shot at winning, near the bottom, a bad team with little hope as is.

Notes -

Position refers to your NHLP standings.  Good position means you have points to give and potential to improve your playoff players on your team.

Position is ranked into the statistical formula above for the rankings, however, Position disappears from the ranking in the very end when the playoffs are decided and we predict the final cup favorites.  It might mean something now to have 50 points to give, so now we give you potential points so to speak.  If you do nothing with them, in the end, your standings and your 50 points mean nothing.

Fringe refers to your playoff players are near 6,7 and 8 spots, not great for the CTR, but still better than non playoffs which are useless.
