NHLP Cup Threat Ratings For 2010/11(Updated For 10 Games, 12% (Percent) of the Season)

The NHLP has always came out with the Cup Threat Rating (CTR).  The CTR is also known as the Power Rankings in the NHLP.  It is a time perfected, skill based, best prediction of what teams are the best and what teams have the best chance of winning it all.  It has been very accurate over the years, however 2009/10 wasn't exactly bang on.  It is true that the CTR holds strongest when upsets do not occur in the playoffs and Philadelphia being a low seed and making the finals did effect the CTR last year.  Cleveland (Tyson) was the CTR #13 ranked team.  However in 2008/09, the CTR predicted Las Vegas and Dallas as being the two best NHLP teams and of course Dallas beat Las Vegas in the NHLP finals.  The CTR Nailed Florida in 2007/08 as NHLP winners and many other winners over the years.  The CTR really does work.  It isn't a perfect science, but it is not a guess either.  If you are near the top, you have a good team and a better shot at winning, near the bottom, a bad team with little hope as is.  The nice thing is you have the power to change your teams position at any time.  This will be on-going and ever changing all year.  How it works - Teams will move up and down based on their Transactions, NHLP Standings (Points back or points to give), Players Points,  Depth Charts, PP Time on the ice and mainly the NHL standings.  You may not like the teams seeded 1st in each Conference to win it all, but the CTR does not go by gut feelings, only 100% statistics.  It holds truest when there are no upsets (but when is that?).  This is the NHLP Power Rankings.

(East)
A HUGE jump in that ratings.  Up from CTR #10 to first overall in the ratings!  This team is truly Destroying in every sense of the word.  Top seeded players Oshie and Backes and home seeds from Lidstrom, Franzen and Horton.  Five players are averaging a point per game.  GM Shawn is easily outscoring all the other teams in the East and will continue to build on his solid position.  All this without even a rating from his first round selection, Henrik Sedin.  We expect that to change, as Vancouver is expected to be a playoff team at some point this season.  A minor first Waiver, adding Dupuis for Bolland was just moving sideways.  Their is nothing not to love about Halifax.  Welcome back Shawn!

Having the NHLP's most valuable player is always nice.  That clearly is Stamkos.  Stamkos has 19 points in 10 games and his Lightning are first in the East.  Kostitsyn and Rafalski are the only others rated, but they are highly rated.  This team has room to improve big time.  That is important, as the North is tough, but so is this Sens team.
3   1288 (L11 - 980)   Marcel

(South)
A very sweet upward climb in the CTR for GM Marcel.  Kopitar and Smyth are only part of the great story developing in the Zoo.  Perron is on a team that just can't lose (Da Blues) and doing quite well with 6 points in 9 games.  Position is good as teams behind deal with injuries in the South.  Staal is no longer rated but six others are and looking OK.  (Now let's check out the Gorilla Pavillion)
4 1200 (L8 - 1081)  Joel

(West)
GM Joel has two teams in the top 5 overall in the CTR.  Still only 3 rated players here,  shows you where this team can be down the road when that changes.  The Lightning connection of St Louis and Malone are top seeds in the East, while Stewart is sadly just lost in Colorado.  Not lost in any other sense, but lost to the fans, seeing this guy play every night.  He loves fighting, so much so, the team told him to knock it off and concentrate on scoring.  He has 16 points in just 11 games to go with his 25 minutes in penalties.  He said he'd still like to fight more, if they allow him too!!! (Here Stawart bloodies Regehr in a few places and Here poor Strachan is a bloodied rag doll)
5  1124 (L15 - 904) Joel

(North)
Jason Williams, in the 7th round, is turning out to be just an awesome pick.  The Kings aren't losing and games and Williams just keeps scoring every game.  Then again, there are not many on this team not scoring.  Thornton, Pavelski and Clowe are still only barely rated, but non the less rated.  If that barely rated becomes a top seed, so will this team be near the tops of the CTR.  Thornton just tied a Sharks record for getting a point on 8 straight goals.  He's good!
6 1122 (L9 - 1075) Ryan

(East)
The second best team in the East, even though in 5th spot, and is having trouble scoring.  Top seeded players Semin, Downie, Brown and Boyes is not something many teams, if any can boast.  Needs more scoring from Nash, Boyes and Antropov.  This team fits GM Ryan's style quite nicely.
7 1108 (L12 - 971) Andrew

(North)
The Hossa injury hasn't hurt this high scoring team just yet, so they will likely weather it.  The Flyers did improve their standings, as did the Kings.  Stoll is hot, hot, hot.
8 1099 (H4 - 1200) Charlie

(East)
Last in the East in the standings, and dropping from 1st to 3rd in the Eastern Divisions CTR ranking are Chuck's Rangers.  Still a great team at CTR #8.  Still scoring problems however.  Gomez and Zherdev have 5 points between them.  They need to wake up, just as Holmstrom did, with 5 points in three games.  Expect the scoring to pick up some, but that only means this team can compete for 4th.
9 1053 (L19 - 651) Charlie

(South)
The CTR is much improved, but only thanks to the Red Wings improved ranking, and a whopping 23 points up in potential over 5th place in the South.  WOW!  Four players still not ranked and those teams, the Sabres, Devils and Wild are not really showing a lot of life yet at all.  When do you decide to ship guys out from those teams?  We are 12% through the season.  Most say that is early, but we say, that is 12%, almost 15% and working on 25%.  Have those teams shown a reason they can turn things around in the next 10 games?  Always fun questions that are always easy for us to answer.
10 1013 (H1 - 1648) Matt

(South)
A major drop.  Position is still solid at 10 points up.  Dallas went from a top seed to a seed barely rated in the Western Conference.  Dumont hasn't got a point since last rating and Riberio has slowed, but nothing like Lacavalier.  Still a solid 6 rated players but likely a more realistic expectation here, than the CTR #1.
11 965 (H6 - 1149) Michael & Ray

(West)
OK, maybe Bourque is good!  After being trashed by the CTR, Bourque decides to win player of the week, with 6 points and 9 over a 4 game span.  The part that sucks, is he isn't rated in the CTR for the Jets, as the Flames are not seeded.  Dallas and Florida also took a NHL standings tumble, hurting the CTR.  GM's Mike and Ray have a boat load of points to give and are stretching that out daily with injuries throughout the West behind them, so all is well in Jets Land.
12 876 (H14 - 905) Scott

(East)
Isn't in the same class as Halifax (Shawn) even though just three points behind in the East.  Lead by Steen and McDonald thanks to the top ranked Blues who just don't allow goals.  Kane is chipping in, but Alfredsson and Ennis, will need to be shipped out if Ottawa and Buffalo don't wake up.  Will continue to battle for second in the East.
13 816 (L21 - 518) Matt

(North)
No Savard!  No problem!  No scoring problem, that is.  This teams is lighting the lamp.  Heater has 5 goals and this team 19.  Perry and Tanguay are not ranked as the Flames have fallen out of the rankings.  Room to improve yes, especially if Savard or a replacement for him, arrives.
14 800 (L20 - 540) Tyson

(East)
The Yearbook seems to have lit a fire under Simmonds butt as he went from zero to hero in a hurry.  The Kings have jump atop the NHL standing in the West along with the Blues and that holds well for the Fury with Simmonds and Doughty.  The team however, has injury problems.  Backstrom still leads the way, giving the Fury a top scoring Capital, mirroring last years NHLP Champions, which were led by Ovechkin.  Koivu's scoring will look good in a Waiver later on.
15 784 (H5 - 1153) Shawn

(South)
Still a solid position but clearly a disappointing slide backwards for GM Shawn.  What gave?  Richards 10 in his first 5, turning to 4 in his last five is still solid, but Dallas dropped through the standings like an anchor overboard.  Iginla and Turris, although final getting some points, are not rated.  Krejci is a major bright spot as Boston is on the rise and looking solid in net.  Is hanging on well with Burrows getting closer to his return.
16 737 (H17 - 770)  Andrew

(West - Pacific)
Malkin is still very slow, for Malkin.  So are the Pens.  Selanne and Hemsky aren't rated.  Plakanec remains solid as Montreal has risen to the top seed in the East along with Tampa Bay.  Erat is back chipping in.
17 700 (L23 - 425) Jr

(West)
All kidding aside, that Eberle kid is good.  Not rated, but good.  GM Jr has found his scoring after a few slow starts and the Green Injury.  Green wasted no time in coming back strong, leaving room to improve the Capitals ranking here.  Hejduk has been smoking hot while Briere and Jokinen have improvement space in scoring and seeding.  A nice jump, but can it get higher?
18 600 (H3 - 1207) Jr

(South)
Good thing GM Jr's Stars only have to finish 4th to make the playoffs, for they are already 23 out of 1st place in the South.  Only 7 points out with injuries a concern, the team just took a beating in the NHL standings and CTR ranking.  Three players teams drops seeds while only Gionta was going the right way.  Unfortunately, Gionta's scoring is another issue, with only 3 points in 11 games.  What is up there?  Nothing from Spezza and Pominville in the ratings and the later still can't read at a grade 3 level (although he insists it is the pictures of the frog and bunny giving him the problems).  Things should get better.
19 458 (H22 - 475) Marcel

(North)
How do you say DOUBLE YIKES in French?  DOUBLE YILES!!!  GM Marcel has fallen all the way to 16 points back in the North with no signs of being able to overcome this outside Kovalchuk, Zajac, Pronger, Vermette....ALL WAKING UP!  One guy isn't going to reverse the damage.  To make things much worse the Devils just suck so badly right now.  They can't stop anyone from scoring.  GM Chad could score against the Devils right now!  The great news is the Devils are only 4 points out of the playoffs.  If they can prove they belong, and how can't they, Kovalchuk at 6 points and Zajac at 4 are,VERY attractive, and easily traded for major points.
20 456 (H13 - 951) Scott

(West)
Technically Gagne didn't go his next five games without a point.  He did go his teams next 5, but has only played once since the last rating.  His problem, he's a bandaid!!!  Benn just comes back and Huselius is now gone for 6 weeks.  Look on the bright side.  NO, I am serious.  Stay positive!
21 339 (L24 - 315) Chad

(East)
Not what you'd hope for a team carrying Sidney.  The Pens have fallen further in the NHL standings as have the Hawks and Preds, all teams of players here.  GM Chad does have decent position considering but there are not many assets on this team and won't improve until changes come.
22 333 (H2 - 1365) Chad

(North)
Is there a colder team right now?  Actually, there is not!  This was a major collapse.  This team was on fire and then everything went wrong.  The scoring stopped, a league low 6 points this past week.  Heavily invested in the previously 1st seeded Leafs who started with 9 out of a possible 10 points in their first five and have gotten 2 of 10 in their last five.  Daniel Sedin also fell out of the rated category along with Booth and Samuelsson.  On top of all this, Chad's Leafs are now double digits out of a NHLP playoff spot in the North and falling fast.
23 255 (H16 - 870) Ryan

(West)
You know the worst thing about being in the West?  You're in Calgary's Division!!!  This team is in bad shape.  Sucks really.  No one can score...well if they can, they aren't!!!  Parize just might have blown a knee and Hall may be demoted, although 5 points in 9 games is respectable.  Connolly, Hall and Weiss (bad ankle Weiss) are all not rated.  This team is Knight and Day what it was just two weeks ago and at 12 points back already, you have to wonder...are the Knights getting longer or the days getting shorter?
24 67 (H18 - 630) Tyson

(South)
Ten points out with only two players rated.  Gaborik should stay clear of the glow-in-the-dark-golfing for a while.

The NHLP has always came out with the Cup Threat Rating (CTR) a couple times a year.  The CTR is also known as the Power Rankings in the NHLP.  It is a time perfected, skill based, best prediction of what teams are the best and what teams have the best chance of winning it all.  It is very accurate.  Like last year it predicted Las Vegas and Dallas as being the two best NHLP teams and of course Dallas beat Las Vegas in the NHLP finals.  Nailing Florida the year before as NHLP winners and many winners over the years.  The CTR really does work.  It isn't a perfect science, but it is not a guess either.  If you are near the top, you have a good team and a shot at winning, near the bottom, a bad team with little hope as is.

Notes -

Position refers to your NHLP standings.  Good position means you have points to give and potential to improve your playoff players on your team.

Position is ranked into the statistical formula above for the rankings, however, Position disappears from the ranking in the very end when the playoffs are decided and we predict the final cup favorites.  It might mean something now to have 50 points to give, so now we give you potential points so to speak.  If you do nothing with them, in the end, your standings and your 50 points mean nothing.

Fringe refers to your playoff players are near 6,7 and 8 spots, not great for the CTR, but still better than non playoffs which are useless.
