NHLP Cup Threat Ratings For 2010/11(Updated For 20 Games, 24% (Percent) of the Season and Transaction 17)

The NHLP has always came out with the Cup Threat Rating (CTR).  The CTR is also known as the Power Rankings in the NHLP.  It is a time perfected, skill based, best prediction of what teams are the best and what teams have the best chance of winning it all.  It has been very accurate over the years, however 2009/10 wasn't exactly bang on.  It is true that the CTR holds strongest when upsets do not occur in the playoffs and Philadelphia being a low seed and making the finals did effect the CTR last year.  Cleveland (Tyson) was the CTR #13 ranked team.  However in 2008/09, the CTR predicted Las Vegas and Dallas as being the two best NHLP teams and of course Dallas beat Las Vegas in the NHLP finals.  The CTR Nailed Florida in 2007/08 as NHLP winners and many other winners over the years.  The CTR really does work.  It isn't a perfect science, but it is not a guess either.  If you are near the top, you have a good team and a better shot at winning, near the bottom, a bad team with little hope as is.  The nice thing is you have the power to change your teams position at any time.  This will be on-going and ever changing all year.  How it works - Teams will move up and down based on their Transactions, NHLP Standings (Points back or points to give), Players Points,  Depth Charts, PP Time on the ice and mainly the NHL standings.  You may not like the teams seeded 1st in each Conference to win it all, but the CTR does not go by gut feelings, only 100% statistics.  It holds truest when there are no upsets (but when is that?).  This is the NHLP Power Rankings.

Notes
1 1891 (H1 - 2115, L10 - 1004) Shawn

(East)
Oshie's injury was much more long term than the CTR realized, but GM Shawn is still 12 points clear of 5th and he seems to have decided to try and ride the injury out.  That will be a very tough thing, as Oshie isn't expected back until January or February.  No shortage of assets here; two Wings, Bruins and Blues, teams that are all 1 through 4 seeds if the playoffs started today.  Lidstrom has been unbelievable.  Hank Sedin had his ranking fall with Vancouver's drop, that now of an almost unrated team.  This team is still the team to beat in the NHLP but things have all of a sudden tightened a lot.
2 1655 (L12 - 971) Andrew

(North)
The best in the North Division, but not by much at all.  This team is really strong and for GM Andrew to actually say, "I don't think I can improve this team right now" says exactly what we weren't thinking!!!  This team is strong, but hell yes, it can, even be better.  A solid position and top seeded players lead by Giroux, who was a drafted third round gift...just good drafting by Andrew.  The loan player not rated is Kovalev.
3 1600 (L7 - 1053) Michael & Ray

(North)
A great waiver pick has jumped the Sens to a season high CTR.  Colaiacovo and Jokinen are both rated.  They tried to trade asset Kostitsyn and no one bit, all the better for this team as Montreal is smoking hot.  Stamkos is on fire but Tampa remains only a 5th seed.  Rafalski is the most valuable asset here as Detroit is 1st overall in the NHL and Rafalski has been much better than a point a game, even though only 8 games in for himself.  Vanek and Elias, as well as 24 points to give, means this team not only can improve, but actually could take over top spot in the CTR, if things fall into place from here on out.
4 1502 (L8 - 1099) Charlie

(East)
No NHLP team has top seeded players like GM Charlie does here in New York.  Are you kidding us?  Ovechkin leads this charge on a team with two Caps, two Flyers and two Wings...with a Hab (ouch, it's ONLY Gomez), who are seeded 3rd to boot.  This team does have one little problem....IT CAN'T SCORE!!!  Right now, GM Charlie's Rangers, are 14 points out, but their isn't a team with more moveable parts in the entire NHLP.  This team will be heard from this season.  The loan question, always remains with a GM Charlie team, is what will Charlie be able to do, to keep this team strong, but in a playoff position, which at the moment, cannot happen unless Charlie makes a trade!
5 1446 (L9 - 1075) Ryan

(East)
At CTR #5, but only the 3rd best rated team in the East!!!  Semin is the golden boy here for GM Ryan, leading a great team, in a big way.  This team is awesome, with room to improve, and a coming waiver for some tweaking.  The loan problem here, remains scoring.  Ryan is going to have to battle all season long for position, that won't come easy with Crosby, Ovechkin, and Backstrom on teams behind him in this Division.  At some point, someone is going to sell out!  It is a game of skill, and will power, and it is definitely...GAME ON!
6   1337 (L16 - 606) Joel

(North)
A season high CTR, even with some season low, bad news.  After picking up first line, King player, Parse, he quickly was lost for 3 months.  That was devastating news to GM Joel's Sabres.  Not helping is the fact, the Sharks, just can't seem to climb the NHL standings.  If that happens, the Sharks start winning, Joel will rise up the CTR, as this is the NHLP's best Sharks team.  Williams is having a sensational season.
7   1294 (L11 - 980)   Marcel

(South)
There is no hotter player in the NHL than Staal with 16 points the first 22 days of November.  GM Marcel, has no position, and still has Perron out with a concussion (could say he got 'Clothes Lined'), but this team is full of top seeds.  Kopitar is worth as much as any NHLP player, so Marcel has all kinds of options, in Florida's run for Cup #2.
8 1235 (L13 - 771) Michael & Ray

(West)
Have you ever watched the TV program "May Day?"  Well it is really good!  It is about true stories, of plane crashes, or almost plane crashes.  Sometimes the pilot and co-pilot are good enough, or lucky enough, one the same, to pull the plane out of what appears certain disaster.  It is a great program.  Check it out!
9 1209 (L20 - 540) Tyson

(East)
Still climbing, as the Kings stay hot and Doughty finally awakes.  Although, Simmonds now appears dead, at least everyone is rated!  Backstrom is the team leader in points, seeding and CTR ranking.  Still a struggle within the Division, with everyone else here, for position, but nice assets if needed later on the trade front.
10 1173 (L19 - 651) Charlie

(South)
Still 26 points up on 5th, and sitting with top seeded assets Zetterberg and Bertuzzi, of the number one team in the NHL.  How is this team only at 1173 in the CTR ratings?  Well, no ratings from Roy, Arnott and Myers aren't helping.  Havlat and Brouwer are fringe seeds at best.  This team, only has position, and two Detroit players helping this rating.  GM Charlie needs to work his points, something past history tells us, isn't likely to happen!!!  A great hockey coach, but an NHLP, average GM!
11 1074 (H4 - 1200, L15 - 703)  Joel

(West)
Anaheim can't make up their mind!  The Ducks are either really hot and really cold, and this past week, really cold!  GM Joel likely doesn't care a whole lot, as this team just keeps opening up it's position, now 27 points clear of 5th in the West.  Three 20-point players; St Louis, Stewart and Getzlaf.  Phoenix has made a nice climb from unrated to the 6th seed, making assets of Wolski and Upshall.  No doubt there is room to improve and one thing we love about GM Joel, he doesn't sit on his ass and watch things unfold...he does his own laundry!
12 969 (H5 - 1153, L15 - 784) Shawn

(South)
There are 5 NHLP Championships from the South Division teams (Two from St Louis and Dallas, and one from Florida) so we thought, hey, that is more than any other division in the NHLP, we better lay off the South Division a little.  Then we realized, the GM's between them in the North Division, had a League low (for a Division) number of Cups between them, so we thought, this all does make sense.  Did that make sense?  What made sense?  Well, ragging on them, being a pathetic division and all, made sense to us.  This division, points wise, is horrible.  Here is GM Shawn, still in third place in the South, but only 83 points, good for 6th in all the other divisions!!!  Really, that matters not, and won't matter as much as, the teams CTR, their league-wide strength come playoffs.  This teams top rated player is Hartnell.  Enough said.
13 934 (H8 - 1025, L12 - 876) Scott

(East)
Six players with double digit points and 12 points up on 5th with only 5 players rated.  St. Louis dropped seeds, hurting McDonalds and Steens rating and Alfredsson now joins Ennis as the unrated players.  Kane has moved into a ranked position, as have half the teams in the West currently are.  This team can score, but clearly nothing too exciting in the way of a great CTR.
14 895 (L23 - 425) Jr

(West)
Still climbing after a slow start, and to a new CTR high.  Bright spots in Briere and Green while Hejduk is solid.  Jokinen is a major bust and Eberle, chipping in scoring, but not in the CTR, will have to be waiver or minor material at some point.
15 869 (H13 - 951, L20 - 456) Scott

(West)
Is GM Scott into liking pain?  Why does he go to the well, year after year, and pick Markov?  Stastny, Toews and Campbell go from zeros to numbers and ranked.  Thank goodness this division is ONLY a 5 team race.
16 857 (H1 - 1648, L12 - 834) Matt

(South)
Thank God for Richards!  His 15 points this month are tied for second in the NHL.  When you are tied with Stamkos for anything, you are doing GOOD!!!  This team has Tampa Bay problems.  Lecavalier is a problem, with his broken hand, and Gagne is a problem, with his umm, his ahhh, ummm....Well, ok, no one knows what is wrong with Gagne, but it is a problem for GM Matt.  Either come back and play or take the season off.  Enough already!  Let's be honest.  Gagne was a wanted man on many draft lists, even though none admit it now, but through 21 games this season, still not one point.  Least Savard has an excuse!  After saying that, if you offer him up tomorrow, I can think of a few GM's that will give you 5 to 10 points for him!  If you don't believe that, have the balls, auction him off to the highest bidder...
17 821 (L20 - 470) Matt

(North)
Savard's return nears and the Nords just keep scoring.  Miles ahead of the 5th and 6th place teams in the North, so far in fact, Savard might as well rest until the playoffs, for until the teams behind in the North do something, this team is very safe.  These guys can score!  Two point per game players; Heatley and Perry, are leading the scoring, but not the CTR, as Anaheim is now out and San Jose barely rated, tied for the 8th seed.  This team has something to look forward to in Savard, but no single player can rise this team to the top of the CTR by themselves, so as is, we like it, but we aren't feeling the love just yet.
18 818 (L24 - 315) Chad

(East)
A nice climb in the CTR thanks to adding Laich.  A waiver this week, so Parise might turn into something rated also.  Crosby is the point leader but Pittsburgh isn't a top four seed, so there is room for this team to improve.  One point ahead of 5th, and it just does not appear this team will start climbing in this tough division, where all season, everything will be earned!
19 753 (H17 - 770, L18 - 534)  Andrew

(West - Pacific)
Another team in the West with 3 - 20+ point players.  Malkin, Plekanec and Selanne may have 'much different' CTR values, but they are all scoring for GM Andrew.  The same can't be said for Rolston, Setoguchi and Chara.  As far as assets, half the team isn't worth typing their names out, so GM Andrew has work to do if this team is ever going to be more than a wanna-play-first-round-matchup or #19 in the CTR out of the junk behind!
20 727 (L24 - 67) Tyson

(South)
A nice improvement, thanks mainly to the Coyotes jump in the NHL standings, from unrated to a number 6 seed.  "That is what happens when the standings are so tight and you have two players on a team that has a 6 game winning streak" stated Muddy Capone, "All of a sudden Whitney and Vrbata, whether you like the Yotes or not, are assets in the NHLP."  Gaborik has come back scoring, but the two Canucks, Kesler and Raymond are not getting much value as the Knuckles have lost 3 in a row and fallen to the 8th seed in the West.
21 648 (H2 - 1365, L22 - 333) Chad

(North)
A long 13 points out with Vancouver struggling to stay rated, sitting in the 8th seed in the West.  This team has assets but can't score.  If Daniel Sedin slows up, this team fades fast.  There comes a time when you must give up on players like Knuble and Modano when you can't score.  Get some scoring and save the best asset, before he becomes your only way out.
22 502 (L22 - 422) Marcel

(North)
"We have some scorers on this team" said GM Marcel.  We just ask, who are they?  GM Marcel just dropped from 14 points out at the CTR 15 game mark to 30 points out in just 35 player games.  This team is going seriously, in the wrong direction, and we believe GM Marcel may be holding on to his beloved Canadiens, managing with his heart, and not his head.  "When you are this far out and have a waiver" says Muddy Capone, "Do you keep your Subban's who have 8 points in 20 games?  You have to cut the string, or use it, to tie up a nice package with some points."  Marcel, did neither.
23 241 (H3 - 1207, L24 - 159) Jr

(South)
Spezza, Pominville and Phaneuf not rated.  Marleau, Sullivan and Legwand are 8th seeds, at best.  Gionta has 11 points in 21 games.  GM Jr's Stars are 11 points out of the playoffs.
24 169 (H16 - 870) Ryan

(West)
Lets be honest.  No GM can somehow, magically be OK, if their top player goes down for three months, and they lose another top pick for 6 weeks (Parise and Galiardi).  We wish that on no GM, and if we had to wish it upon any GM...well, poor old Ryan, would not be at the top of the list.  Who would be?  Hey, this is about Green Bay!  Ryan, unloaded Parise and Galiardi, and is only 13 points out of 5th, has assets in....in....in ahhhh....Clark and Talbot are on playoff teams (there is your assets).  Maybe GM Ryan should have kept Parise and Galiardi after all!

The NHLP has always came out with the Cup Threat Rating (CTR) a couple times a year.  The CTR is also known as the Power Rankings in the NHLP.  It is a time perfected, skill based, best prediction of what teams are the best and what teams have the best chance of winning it all.  It is very accurate.  Like last year it predicted Las Vegas and Dallas as being the two best NHLP teams and of course Dallas beat Las Vegas in the NHLP finals.  Nailing Florida the year before as NHLP winners and many winners over the years.  The CTR really does work.  It isn't a perfect science, but it is not a guess either.  If you are near the top, you have a good team and a shot at winning, near the bottom, a bad team with little hope as is.

Notes -

Position refers to your NHLP standings.  Good position means you have points to give and potential to improve your playoff players on your team.

Position is ranked into the statistical formula above for the rankings, however, Position disappears from the ranking in the very end when the playoffs are decided and we predict the final cup favorites.  It might mean something now to have 50 points to give, so now we give you potential points so to speak.  If you do nothing with them, in the end, your standings and your 50 points mean nothing.

Fringe refers to your playoff players are near 6,7 and 8 spots, not great for the CTR, but still better than non playoffs which are useless.
