Notes
1 1991 (H1 - 2120, L10 - 1004) Shawn

(East)
Boston, Detroit or Vancouver going to the NHL finals could give GM Shawn his first Championship.  As first overall in the NHLP, in the first round of the playoffs, he'd play the 16th overall seeded playoff team.  Currently that is whoever finishes 4th in the West Division (Calgary, Winnipeg, Los Angeles, Edmonton or Green Bay) and it appears not likely to change this season.  None of those teams want to face Halifax in round one of the playoffs, for their own Cup hopes would be over quickly.  This team will be tough to beat.  Depending on how aggressive Shawn wants to get with Backes, will determine if he can hold onto first overall and home advantage throughout the entire NHLP playoffs, something that maybe wasn't as important in previous seasons.  Right now, it appears that 39 points of Backes' is all that may be done the remainder of the season.
2 1840 (H2 - 1874, L15 - 784) Shawn

(South)
(Unofficially - This is the first time in CTR history, we recall a GM having the CTR #1 and CTR #2 held positions.  CONGRATS TO GM SHAWN on this feat!)

Pominville is in!!!  Well, rated for now anyhow.
There is just nothing not to love about this team.  We just don't see Brad Richards being traded, but we honestly do not know their internal money problems in Dallas.  If he is dealt, they will have sent a clear picture on the financial problems of Dallas.  GM Shawn can't do a whole lot better than a 3rd seeded team for Richards, but this story will unfold quickly with only 17 days to the NHL Trading Deadline.
3 1676 (H1 - 2037, L24 - 315) Chad

(East)
Without Crosby, GM Chad's Pens, along with the NHL Pens have both climbed.  Pittsburgh has been making the most of a nightmare, losing not only Crosby, but the Super Bowl and Malkin.  Crosby has 1 point in 2011 and the effects are evident in Chad's team scoring.  Just 10 points so far in February, tying GM Charlie's pathetic scoring Rangers for the low in the East Division.  Chad is only 12 points clear of 5th and will likely be 4th or 5th next rating.  Crosby must come back as Chad's one realistic hope is Pittsburgh goes to the NHL Final.
4 1624 (H2 - 1962, L13 - 771) Michael & Ray

(West)
Maverick and Goose were scoring more when Datsyuk and Cleary were long term injuries.  Still 18 points clear of 5th, but things appear to be getting tighter now, ever so slowly.  There is no doubt there are a ton of assets here, but the goal has to be, to be a buyer at the NHLP Trading Deadline, not a seller.  Could use Benn back sooner than later.
5 1597 (H4 - 1730, L19 - 651) Charlie

(South)
Ask and you shall receive!  The CTR asked for scoring and with 27 points in the first 11 days of February, enough to lead the entire South Division, GM Charlie got what he needed.  Ten of those have come from Samuelsson who has been insane.  Bertuzzi and Kronwall has been a little insane themselves.  Insanely BAD!  They will have to be better come playoff time or this three player Detroit team could be gone quick.  Charlie now has two non playoff players worth 62 points in Berglund and Brouwer, but we still love this team.  (One more point of interest.  If GM Charlie is to have a baby born 11-11-11, the birthday of his favorite number, the only same numbered birthday the rest of our lifetimes - the best conception date is February 18th.  Really though, as if Charlie needs more distractions from his NHLP teams!)
6 1594 (H2 - 1923, L15 - 703)  Joel

(West)
You have to wonder what kind of offers GM Joel had with the waiver, to turn them all down and use it himself?  He did get Wheeler to go with Recchi, but that won't help first round scoring.  Frolik was likely a steal in the scoring department (rumors are he may play with Kane and Toews), but scoring isn't a problem here.  Unless Chicago comes back, he is still a non playoff player.  Neither Visnovsky or Cole are sure things, both could yet find their way out of the ranking and NHL playoffs.  Still a great CTR, we do love it for sure, and still 56 points to work with, so although nothing seems accomplished yet, no one can argue that can't yet occur.  So many points in potential.  Can GM Joel really improve this team in the CTR before the potential means nothing anymore?
7 1454 (L24 - 67) Tyson

(South)
A Waiver and now ten points to work with.  This team keeps scoring at a wicked pace.  Still 6 playoff players which will make the Waiver interesting.  Does GM Tyson try to tweak things or trade away the waiver?  Now might be a great time to add a piece with a big deal within the NHLP, but with only 10 points to spare, it likely won't be a blockbuster, if it occurs.  A great CTR and a great opportunity on the Canucks run to become the first GM in league history to win back to back years with different teams.  If he can get through round one of the NHLP playoffs, who knows from there.
8 1363 (H3 - 1600, L16 - 842) Michael & Ray

(North)
Vanek is now finally ranked!!!  Can you believe these two GMs?  In first in the North, but no room for mistakes, from first to 5th in this very tough Division.  Seven players on different teams so matchups will be key later.  Prior NHLP Cups have been won by teams without two players on the same NHL team, so no worries there.
9   1298 (H7 - 1430, L20 - 464) Joel

(North)
Here are the CTR rankings since the start of the season for Buffalo:  Started 15-5-16-6-15-11-7-7-20-20 and now 9th.  Seven different times this team has crossed back and forth over the 1000 point mark in the CTR including at one point a 966 point drop between ratings.  Now we just saw an 826 point gain!  The reason we see this madness here is because there are three high scorers all from San Jose on this team and the Sharks have been the most yo-yo like team this NHL season.  They have been streaky and shooting either up or down the NHL Western Standings, seemingly every rating.  This time, they may just stay high as they haven't lost in 10 games (likely the kiss of death was just delivered to GM Joel in that last statement).  This team is all Sharks and will likely follow them round to round come playoff time.  Being the hottest team in the NHL right now, not a bad team to be banking on.
10 1192 (H1 - 1648, L12 - 834) Matt

(South)
Iginla is now finally rated.  Many, the CTR included, looked sideways at the huge inner division deal of trading Mike Richards 49, Horcoff 18 and Langenbrunner 18 (85) to New Orleans (Shawn) for Krejci 38, Iginla 51 and Pietrangelo 24 (113).  At the time GM Shawn had given GM Matt 9 points, which is now 28 points.  Without this deal, Matt would be 25 points back of 4th.  Matt at the time, backed his deal, saying he got the best of the scoring (and we agreed), and yes lost Richards of Philadelphia, but he believed the Bruins to be the team in the East heading to the Cup finals (Ironically enough, so does GM Shawn).  Who really could argue?  The second half of the deal, Matt felt that Iginla may get traded, and again, who could argue with that logic?  A risky move at the time and even with the CTR then taking a hit, and other GM's thinking, GM Matt would lose the deal, Matt is now looking like a clear decisive winner (But GM Shawn isn't crying with the CTR #2 ranked Wolverines).  Not making the deal would have likely meant having to trade Richards now anyways, and could Matt ever have gotten now, what he got back then?  We think not.  All the credit in the world goes to any GM who goes for it, and backs it up, and to GM Matt for having the insight to pull off the biggest deal of the season to date, and have it pay off for him, so far, in such a big, big way!
11 1099 (H10 - 1387, L22 - 333) Chad

(North)
Just 5 playoff players and just 5 points up on 5th.  It will not get any easier from here on out.  Points are critical in the North, every one of them.  There is now chatter of Ladd being traded?  On one side he is an RFA and will want a raise from his current $2.35 million, likely about $3.5 to $4.5 and Atlanta can do that for their team Captain.  Also would it make sense to make him Captain and then trade him?  Knowing he is Captain, would that make him want to resign?  Interesting thoughts.  GM Chad would prefer he gets dealt, leaving only Shattenkirk as things sit a non playoff player.  We'll know soon enough.
12 1092 (H10 - 1244, L12 - 876) Scott

(East)
Second overall in the NHLP in points, but not a very intimidating playoff team.  Until Kaberle is dealt, there will be doubt, on whether or not he will waive his no trade clause.  First overall pick Kane must be giving GM Scott a lot of doubt himself.  Scott was up in the air until announcing Kane as his first pick, passing on Stamkos, who now leads the league in scoring.  Chicago is not even ranked and with only 28 games to play, must catch 3 teams who are ahead of them in the Western Standings.  28 games becomes 20 and then 10 in a hurry.  Oshie's low number is important in moving a high non playoff once GM Scott's is able to figure out who they all are.
13 948 (H4 -1502) Charlie

(East)
Not much of a surprise that the 4 worst scoring point per games teams in the NHLP, are the four 6th place teams!  Just none of the others have a CTR like this one, this high.  There is some hope, albeit slim, for GM Charlie here.  Making the playoffs is not an issue.  A monkey could get this team into the playoffs, even though 33 points down.  GM Charlie has too many assets not to hit the ground, at some point, when he trips and falls into a trade of some kind.  The problem is what will remain?  This team will have to lose it's best chance, just to make the playoffs.  That could have been avoided.  GM Charlie has been just what we expected.  He has sat on his ass, doing nothing at all here and expecting things to fix themselves.  This team can't score.  We have said that for three months.  This league seldom fixes these problems by themselves.  It just don't usually work like that.  Gomez, Fehr and Zherdev, or whoever, could have been worked harder.  A Fehr could have been turned into a Spezza kind of move, to increase the bottom half scoring and get closer in the standings.  This way less assets would have to move to overcome the 33 points deficit Charlie now faces.  There is likely a reason why GM Charlie has not won a NHLP Championship in his first 10 seasons, we just can't put our finger on exactly, what the reason might be!
14 900 (H2 - 1655) Andrew

(North)
Just as quickly as things turned for the best, they soured for the worse.  A season low CTR that was forced by Edler's huge loss (Edler here and Malkin on his other team - not Andrew's season by any stretch).  In came Hemsky, S. Kostitsyn and Campbell, two of the three not even rated.  Hopes are Hemsky is traded and we can easily see that happening as the Oilers rebuild.  Hossa and Campbell are playoff question marks, as Chicago has been mediocre, losing game after game in the third period.  That won't do it.  Will Frolik be able to change their season around?  GM Andrew is hoping.  Andrew will do anything he has to do, anything at all, to get this team in the NHLP playoffs and keep Carter and Giroux together.
15 884 (H12 - 1171, L23 - 425) Jr

(West)
A healthy 20 points up on 5th and still Briere and Meszaros from top seeds to build around.  Green has struggled to stay healthy, but is still a solid asset.  Has 106 non playoff points yet to deal with.  GM Jr usually grabs a waiver right about now and picks up some players in the minors who may get dealt on NHL Trading Deadline Day.  Makes the day more fun!!!  There are 9 Waivers in total before the NHL Trading Deadline still left, so we may get to see Jr do it again.  (Note:  Hejduk is an UFA so if Colorado does not climb, he may himself be traded.)
16 881 (H11 - 1378, L20 - 470) Matt

(North)
We know the answer to one question.  Savard is not coming back this season.  The news no sooner broke and GM Matt reacted.  No he didn't unload Savard.  Why?  What he did do was add another Bruin, Marchand, along with Lucic.  Clearly Matt has a plan on the Bruins going to the NHL Finals.  We like Matt's chances if that happens.  Duchene will likely find himself packaged with Savard in a trade or to the minors.  There is no room for error as Matt is only 8 points up on 5th.
17  740 (H7 - 1294, L19 - 472)   Marcel

(South)
GM Marcel has 7 rated players.  Can the Kings hold on?  Will the Canes stay in?  Can the Wild finish wild?  Those answers are going to have to be answered for Kopitar, Smyth, Eric Staal and Bouchard.  We've seen much worse teams but that doesn't mean we like this one any better!
18 667 (H9 - 1209, L20 - 540) Tyson

(East)
GM Tyson looks to move into 3rd place in the East Division thanks to the Crosby injury, but standings don't make this team better or scarier.  As it sits this is a dream first round matchup for almost any other NHLP team.  With Atlanta playing as poorly as anyone in the NHL since the New Year, Peverley and Stewart have found themselves as non playoff players and unranked.  Doubtful that changes, as Atlanta has shown nothing to make anyone feel they can turn it around.  They stopped scoring and their defense is best suited for offense.  GM Tyson has work to do.
19 638 (H8 - 1357, L18 - 534)  Andrew

(West - Pacific)
The highs and lows of being an NHLP GM.  Coming off a huge climb to a season high, over 600 points, everything came crashing down with one check in the corner.  Losing Malkin for the season and replacing him with a 719 point drop in the CTR has practically killed all hope.  Miracle Max could not even fix this team!  It appears GM Andrew will now do what he can and make a team that will at best take some longer seeded teams to make a playoff splash, for any hope of Andrew winning anything this season.  At the moment his hopes rest with Anaheim.  Only 14 points up on Edmonton (GM Scott) who is making a late season charge, GM Andrew has his work cut out for him if he is to get in, while making something, anything, even if a long shot, to give himself a chance now without Malkin.
20 525 (H5 - 1446) Ryan

(East)
The best thing to happen to GM Ryan's Bruins this year is Crosby is still a little foggy as to what happened to him last month.  "I'm still ringing in the New Year" stated Crosby.  Once that fog clears and the ringing stops, GM Ryan will again be in trouble here.  Nash, Boyes and Bergfors are out.  Brown, just may join them.  Goligoski may be the teams most valuable player and with no one left to score in Pittsburgh, can they truly keep winning?  This team, as is, is total garbage.  A waiver is coming, but is help on the way?
21 150 (H13 - 951) Scott

(West)
Prospal is the third highest scoring playoff player on the team.  PROSPAL HAS 1 POINT!  Of the players in the playoffs, the three of them have a combined 50 points!  You can rev the engine all you want, and hell ya, those RPMs will look scary as hell, but the truck ain't going anywhere if you can't get the fucking thing out of PARK!
22 125 (H16 - 870, L23 - 22) Ryan

(West)
He is behind GM Scott in Edmonton, more points in the standings (29) then he is in the CTR (25).  At 125 points I am not sure either of them can be to proud of what they have put together this season!  (Least Green Bay won the Super Bowl!!!!!!!)
23 39 (H22 - 502, L24 - -221) Marcel

(North)
(Correction:  Last CTR the final word of this sentence "here" should have read "there".  Just to be clear.)

Sure you are 48 out, but truly do teams have to stop trying?  There is a difference here and in Dallas (Jr), for it can be argued the effort was put in there.

GM Marcel has been smoking hot here in Montreal.  Is back to only 46 points out.  With the points in this league to give and carrying Pronger this team could still come back, IF MARCEL WANTS IT TO HAPPEN.  It isn't just a transaction away, it is many, along with an aggressive waiver, but it could be done.  Will it be?  We are talking about GM Marcel here aren't we?
24 -37 (H3 - 1207, L23 - -139) Jr

(South)
If GM Jr could have grabbed a 30 point deal for his San Jose boys, maybe he could have made a charge.  Not that Vancouver (Joel) still can't do it, but Jr didn't when the waiver was available in the deal.  A whopping 68 points back.
